The shallows refer to lush reefs covered in shallow waters. Islands are home to nests of crabs, as well. The islands are a player’s safe haven, supplying various limited resources that will have to be rationed, as well as several vantage points from where one would be able to oversee the vast ocean. ARK Survival EvolvedĪs the player progresses through the world, other biomes will seamlessly generate and integrate with the world, creating the illusion of a seemingly endless ocean. Each biome spans few square miles, but can latch onto similar neighboring biomes to extend influence. Biomes are generated in a grid-like formation. No two worlds are the same no two biomes are the same. This seed is used throughout that specific world’s generation.

When a new game is created a random series of numbers will be generated from a ‘seed’. The world of Stranded Deep is infinitely procedurally generated. The real world’s Pacific Ocean and all of its inhabitants heavily influence all flora and fauna in the game. Stranded Deep is set in the Pacific Ocean. Crafting also becomes a key skill when surviving, as different tools are needed for different purposes – axes and hammers can be used for building. The player will need to keep themselves satiated on food and water in order to prevent them from starving. Survival on the islands will determine whether or not the player has the necessary skills needed to thrive on such a vast but empty environment. They must steer clear of many things some may poison, while others will outright kill the player.
Though these sights may capture the awe and attention of the player. Throughout their journeys, the player will encounter many exotic views, many hazards and many of the ocean’s fauna – lush coral reefs, vast sights, an abundance of fish and marine life, as well as more significant features such as sharks and even whales. With nothing but your skills and what you can find in the environment, you must survive in the islands of the Pacific. Storyįollowing a severe plane crash caused by unknown circumstances, the player wakes up to find that they are the lone survivor of the ordeal. From a weak and flimsy palm frond shack to a solid clay brick house. With dozens of tiers and building pieces to choose from craft your very own home away from home. Harvesting, Craftsmanship, Cooking, Physical, and Hunting can all be levelled up for maximum efficiency or to unlock different crafting combinations. Items in your inventory and on the ground around you can all be crafted into something useful. Some are simple clones of the aforementioned phenomenon, others are a little more creative Stranded Deep falls into the latter category.
There have been a few ‘survivor’ games over the last couple of years, all of which owe a lot to the Minecraft trend. Chances are you’ve never heard of Stranded Deep, which is a crying shame as it has the potential to be one hell of a game and it certainly looks the part.įor those who aren’t aware, Stranded Deep comes from the small indie studio Beam Team Games which consists of just two developers named Ben Massey and Sam Edwards which just makes the entire thing that much more impressive.
